Abaana’s Hope Internships

Thank you for your interest in the Abaana’s Hope Internship Program.  Interns are a vital part of Four Corners’ strategy for impacting the lives of orphans and families in Uganda.  God is using servant leaders just like you to help make an eternal difference in the life of a child.

The Abaana’s Hope internship program with Four Corners Ministries was created to provide an opportunity for people to partner with Four Corners Ministries and help us fulfill the mission we have been entrusted with in Gulu, Uganda. This opportunity also gives interns a chance to set themselves apart for at least 30 days to discover more of whom they are and what they are created to do. Please understand that this internship program is competitive because there is limited space for Abaana’s Hope Interns.

Once you submit your application, and are approved as an Abaana’s Hope intern you will pay a $200 deposit to secure your spot as an intern. You will then receive a detailed packet of information on the internship program. We will also add you to a private Facebook group where you can communicate with both current and former interns with Abaana’s Hope.

Feel free to email us at kimberly@fourcorners.org with specific questions.

Internship sessions begin in January, June and September. The programs typically last no less than 30 days and no more than 6 months.

What will we do?

The majority of your time will revolve around participating in the ministries and outreaches Abaana’s Hope has already established. Each intern will be assigned to at least one ministry that fits their talents with Abaana’s Hope, but everyone will also be involved with almost all aspects of Abaana’s Hope by the end of their time in Uganda.

Some of the Abaana’s Hope outreaches include, but are not limited to:

  • Construction of the Comprehensive Children’s Village
  • Abaana’s Hope Medical Clinic and Pharmacy assistance
  • Agriculture Projects-Grist Mill and planting/harvesting of crops
  • Abaana’s Hope Women’s Programs- Paper Jewelry & Knitting
  • Abaana’s Hope Children’s Outreach-Coordinating with teams with VBS based curriculum and also caring for workers children
  • Home visits of children in our sponsorship program
  • Administration and organization at Abaana’s Hope
  • Team preparations and planning (for short term teams)

****Part of your responsibilities will also include helping with hospitality, which includes serving as well as helping to facilitate short-term teams while they are here at Abaana’s Hope. We aim to foster an atmosphere where you are encouraged to experience more of the love of the Father in your own life through worship, devotionals and encouragement. We have seen hundreds of people leave with a passion to discover the unique purpose that God has for their lives.

Financial Information

The estimated fee for a 30-day internship is $4,250 and the estimated fee for a 60-day internship is $5,175. Typical internships can be a minimum of 30 days to 90 days. Longer internships are also available upon approval. Your internship fees are not “rental fees.” They are donations to Abaana’s Hope used to expand the various AH outreaches as well as the general ministry of AH.

Fees also cover the following expenses:

  • Round trip plane ticket
  • Accommodations – housing shared with roommates at Chase & Kimmey Barbrey’s House
  • Internship/Staff Meal Plan
  • Safe Drinking water – bring a reusable bottle
  • Ugandan Staff Expenses (Salaries, Food, etc.)
  • Maintenance and Utility/Fuel Expenses
  • Vehicle Expenses/Fuel/Insurance/Maintenance
  • Compound Security
  • Administration fees

Additional expenses you should budget for that ARE NOT included in your internship fee:

  • Vaccinations for traveling to Uganda. If done early these vaccinations are cheaper, but if you decide to wait until the last minute, they will be upwards $600.
  • Malaria Medicine-The price of the medicine varies with different prescriptions. These can be anywhere from $3 a week, up to $5 a week.
  • Additional Snacks and Meals while away from Abaana’s Hope: A basic western type meal and soda will cost approximately 20,000 shillings ($8). Your fees will automatically cover at least one meal with the group at a restaurant a week. Any extra outings will be the individual’s expense. This expense will obviously depend upon how often you go out to eat and what you eat. There are different grocery stores, which have a variety of snacks. Most Western type snacks are more expensive than African distributed foods. Previous interns have spent $20-$30 per month on extra snacks. Again, this will vary from person to person.
  • Souvenirs- This expense will depend completely on how much and what you buy. Former team members have spent between $50 to $300.

Please take a moment to download and fill out the application packet provided here and email the completed packet, along with a current photo, resume and three references to: kimberly@fourcorners.org Your application will be reviewed by our Abaana’s Hope staff and someone will be in touch with you soon.

Thanks again for your willingness to serve the children of Uganda.
